Ira Ono to explain the ‘Business of Art’

KAHULUI — Award-winning Big Island artist Ira Ono will teach his annual “Business of Art” workshop for VITEC- Office of Continuing Education and Training at the University of Hawaii Maui College on Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The workshop covers every aspect of what it takes to be a successful artist in Hawaii. Topics include pricing your product for profit; creating a competitive edge for foolproof presentations to buyers at galleries, gift shops and department stores; creating multiples for increased sales; what to look for in hiring trustworthy home workers, independent contractors and other studio help; Internet marketing; trade shows; visual merchandising and affordable display techniques; packaging; and presentation for wholesale, retail and fine art gallery sales.
Ono’s works can be found in the State Art Museum and private collections in the U.S., Europe and Japan. He was recently voted “Businessman of the Year” by the Volcano Rotary Club in Volcano Village, Hawaii.
Ono owns Volcano Garden Arts Center in Volcano Village, which was recently featured in Sunset Magazine.
