McGruff the Crime Dog will meet keiki and share some personal safety tips at the 2010 West Maui Safety Fair at 11 a.m.

LAHAINA — More than a dozen local, state and federal agencies will share information on personal safety, crime prevention, disaster preparedness, public health and resources for children and seniors at the 2010 West Maui Safety Fair.

The event is set for Saturday, Feb. 27, at Lahaina Cannery Mall from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“We take a lot of pride in being good neighbors. For us, hosting an event whose sole purpose is to keep our families healthy and safe is a logical, practical and responsible extension of that role,” said Lynn Okamoto, general manager of Lahaina Cannery Mall.

Participating organizations will include Maui County Civil Defense and CERT (emergency preparedness), Maui Police Department (child safety seat inspections), Maui Fire Department (child identification cards), Maui County Department of Water Supply (water conservation), U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (marine safety), county Office on Aging (senior safety), Maui County Hotel & Resort Security Association (visitor safety), American Red Cross (emergency safety), University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service (tips for clean hands), Maui County Ocean Safety Officers (water safety), Maui Electric Company (electrical safety, energy conservation and renewable energy), American Heart Association (heart health), Maui District Health Office (public health) and West Maui Cycles (bike safety).

This free, interactive, educational event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunrise, Lahaina Cannery Mall, Maui Electric Company and the County of Maui. For information, call 661-5304.
