Island Ice celebrates 10,000th customer
LAHAINA — With hugs, high-fives and numerous prizes, Lani Kaniakua became the 10,000th customer at the recently opened Island Ice Company Ice House at Lahaina Cannery Mall.
Lani’s purchase of a bag of ice won her the honor.
“This machine is wonderful. I use it all the time," Lani said. “It is so easy to use.”
Her father, John, who had just arrived from Kauai, was with Lani when she bought the winning bag of ice.
This was John’s first experience with an automated ice vending machine. He said, “This thing is mean! When you going bring one of these to Kauai?”
Cousins Seth and Micah Cravalho from Haiku own the distributorship for the Ice House concept for all the Hawaiian Islands. They plan to open a second location at the Kahului small boat ramp in December.
“We are two local boys who love doing business with local people,” Seth explained. “We are thrilled to be able to provide a quality, affordable ice product to our island community.”
The Ice House, which produces 16,000 pounds of ice a day, is located at the south end of Lahaina Cannery Mall with easy access from the mall entrance near Longs Drugs.
There is a well-lit parking area next to the Ice House, which accepts credit cards and cash and operates 24 hours a day.
