LAHAINA — I’o restaurant announced that Solana Tao is its new general manager.
Tao has worked for the pacific’O group since 1999 in a multitude of capacities, including server, bartender and catering manager at I’o, pacific’O and the Feast at Lele, all between bouts of backpacking through Nepal, Southeast Asia and Cambodia, and visits to the Caribbean and South Pacific.
“Solana is part of our restaurant family,” said I’o co-owner Stephan Bel-Robert. “Over the years, she has contributed volumes to our diners’ experience, including an international perspective on sustainable dining, so this promotion has been duly earned.”
A West Maui native, Tao was raised with a gusto for health and well-being, from the study of food and nutrition to a well-rounded perspective on life.
Previously, Tao worked for Longhi’s restaurant, as a wine representative for Fine Wine Imports, and various jobs abroad.
She brings to I’o an in-depth knowledge of wine, creative approach to cocktails and sparkling enthusiasm to service.
“I’m excited to represent an establishment that abides by sustainable practices,” said Tao. “I’o’s gourmet ‘farm to table’ approach connects well with my personal food philosophies,” she said.
I’o serves Hawaiian regional cuisine created by Executive Chef James McDonald, paired with an award-winning wine list.
I’o is located at 505 Front St. Dinner is offered nightly starting at 5:30 p.m. For more information, call 661-8422 or visit www.iomaui.com.
