LAHAINA – The fifth running of the Lahainaluna High School Foundation’s Legends of Lahainaluna event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 9, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the historic Pioneer Inn. The event was created to honor individuals and businesses that have made significant contributions to the school and the Lahainaluna community.

This year, Lori Gomez-Karinen was chosen as the recipient for the individual category. Known by most as “Auntie Lori,” she was a fixture at Lahainaluna for more than 40 years, serving as an English teacher, advisor to the Hawaiiana Club and Boarder’s Chorus and director of David Malo Day.

The Na Hoaloha Ekolu family of businesses – Old Lahaina Luau, Aloha Mixed Plate, Star Noodle, Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop and Hoaloha Farms – was chosen as the business category recipient. They recently celebrated their 30th anniversary of doing business on Maui by creating “30 Acts of Aloha,” culminating in $130,000 in donations to ten Maui non-profits.

Samuel Mookini will be the posthumous category award recipient. A former LHS and King Kamehameha III Elementary School music teacher, Mookini was responsible for putting the school’s alma mater to sheet music. He passed away in 1966.

Tickets are $75 per person; tables of ten are available for $675. Tickets for former and current Department of Education staff are available for $60 per person.

This special event features a buffet dinner, live music, dessert and coffee, no-host bar and awards ceremony.

Reserve your seat(s) or table on the LHSF website’s donor page or call the executive director at 661-5332.

The last event sold out, so don’t delay. Sponsorships and event program advertising opportunities are still available.
