By Staff | Jul 27, 2017

Works in the show include Ian Tremewen’s watercolor painting “Sails by Lahaina” (top), Vern Tremewen’s watercolor painting “Rowing Home” (middle) and Lorraine Abernathy’s oil painting “Summer Shower Trees.”

LAHAINA – “Images of Land & Sea 2017” will be featured at Village Galleries at 120 Dickenson St. in Lahaina from July 28 to Aug. 17.

A reception for the show will be held on Friday, July 28, from 6 to 9 p.m. For information, call 661-4402 or visit villagegalleriesmaui.com.

“Images of Land & Sea 2017” includes works by Ian Tremewen, Lorraine Abernathy and Vern Tremewen.

Ian explained, “First time I am having an exhibition with my father, Vern Tremewen, and my wife, Lorraine Abernathy, all together.

“There are very few of my father’s Maui watercolors left, so this is a very special showing. They were painted in the early 1970s and early 1980s. Aside from a historic evaluation, Vern’s classical watercolors show a side of Lahaina and Maui not always seen. Included are nautical works out in Lahaina Roadstead, harbor and residential pieces. Altogether, this is a unique family affair of an exhibition.”

The late Vern Tremewen was an outstanding watercolor artist and widely collected. He resided in Lahaina and exhibited at Village Galleries in the 1970s.

Abernathy is showing new work featuring the shower trees of Maui along with a series of florals from the island. Ian will be featuring images of land and sea.

Ian and Lorraine will offer painting demonstrations on Friday nights during the exhibition, and Ian will conduct a Contemporary Watercolor Workshop at the Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center on Aug. 26-27.
