Uncle George Kahumoku Jr. to speak at Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meeting
LAHAINA – Grammy Award-winning master slack key guitarist Uncle George Kahumoku Jr. will speak at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s meeting on Tuesday, May 2.
For 12 years, Kahumoku has hosted a weekly show on Maui called “George Kahumoku Jr.’s Slack Key Show: Masters of Hawaiian Music.” His CDs include “Paniolo Slack Key Songs of the Hawaiian Cowboy” and “Kahumoku: Priest of the Land,” among others. He is also the author of several books, including “A Hawaiian Life.”
“Uncle George is truly Hawaii’s renaissance man, a Grammy Award winner, a singer, songwriter and author, who has contributed so much to our community,” said Joanne Laird, interim president of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset. “We are thrilled to host him at our meeting.”
The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s community speaker series takes place during club meetings, which are held on the first, third and fifth Tuesday of the month at the Royal Lahaina Resort, Kaanapali, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
