Lahaina Arts Society is featuring work by Photographer Marty Wolff in its Banyan Tree Gallery in the Old Lahaina Courthouse from Feb. 7 through March 6 (see story on page 14). Residents and visitors can meet Wolff every Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. during the exhibit.

LAHAINA – Work by Photographer Marty Wolff will be featured in Lahaina Arts Society’s Banyan Tree Gallery from Feb. 7 through March 6. Meet the artist every Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m.

A Bronx-born Baby Boomer, Wolff is a Maui resident. Along the way, he spent a decade based out of Boulder, Colorado.

In his teens, he studied photography and design at New York City’s New School briefly, but the bulk of his photographic experience has been through trial and error.

Building upon the idea that “the world and its people are quite different from the way they appear,” Wolff applied his art to the creation of psychedelic lightshows.

During the cultural revolution of the late 1960s and early 1970s, he performed in scores of concert extravaganzas. For the next 20 years, he traveled the world as a rock and roll concert producer, promoter and lighting/stage designer.

Marty Wolff’s marine photographs include “Honu Breath.”

His early work with the lightshows lent heavily to his style of ever-changing movement of light onstage. His experience with color, shapes and light is reflected in his fine art photography.

His experience and ideas about altered states of perception are apparent in his creations. Believing that beyond the appearance of the initial image is the seed of a different truth, he searches for a more mysterious image.

Occasionally, he said he finds himself conscious that his soul is at one with the universe, moment by moment. These are the moments of creation.
