Concert to feature two guitar virtuosos
KAHULUI – Frank Vignola, one of the most extraordinary guitarists performing before the public today, will play a concert with Vinny Raniolo on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s McCoy Studio Theater.
Vignola’s stunning virtuosity has made him the guitarist of choice for many of the world’s top musicians, including Ringo Starr, Madonna, Donald Fagen, Wynton Marsalis, Tommy Emmanuel, the Boston Pops, the New York Pops and guitar legend Les Paul, who named Vignola to his “Five Most Admired Guitarists List” for the Wall Street Journal.
Vignola covers a full range of styles as well as Gypsy Jazz in the Jean “Django” Reinhart Tradition. His jaw-dropping technique explains why the New York Times deemed him one of the brightest stars of the guitar.
“The monstrous Frank Vignola is one of the most vicious tremelo-pickers on the scene,” commented Jude Gold of Guitar Player Magazine.
“There is little in this world so awe-inspiring as witnessing total mastery of a musical instrument. Like seeing Yo-Yo Ma play the cello or Placido Damingo belt out an aria, sometimes a performer’s perfection can elevate a piece of music to heights beyond the realm of imagination. By all accounts, Frank Vignola conjures just that sort of magic with his acoustic guitar,” noted Matt Cauthron of Intermission Magazine.
“How versatile is Frank Vignola? He’s collaborated with Lionel Hampton and Madonna, covers Mozart and McCartney on the same record, and is one of Les Paul’s favorite guitarists,” said Joan Anderman of the Boston Globe.
With nearly 1,000 engagements in five years they have been performing as a duo, Vignola and Raniolo have become one of the most popular and sought-after duos on the international music scene.
