Maui Jazz & Blues Festival to feature concerts at 18 venues
The sixth annual Maui Jazz & Blues Festival will feature over ten days of concerts at 18 venues island-wide.
The festival will begin on Friday, Aug. 26, at WholeFoods in Kahului. Enjoy jazz and blues with Steve Sargenti & Friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Sept. 1, at BMW of Maui in Kahului, a free celebration of the Maui Jazz & Blues Festival will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., featuring smooth jazz saxophonist Rock Hendricks and guitarist Benny Uyetake, special guest saxophonist Joie Taylor and friends. There will be free pupus by Briget & Bernard’s of Maui and free beverages.
On Friday, Sept. 2, at Wholefoods in Kahului, jazz guitarist Damon Parrillo will perform with Joie Taylor and friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
On Friday, Sept. 2, at Hawaiian Moons Natural Food Store in Kihei, enjoy live jazz with saxophonist John Zangrando and pianist Gene Argel from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 3, at Wholefoods, the King Kekaulike High School June Skies seven-piece jazz band will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Maui Jazz & Blues Festival Kickoff Celebration will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, September 5-7, at Japengo Restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa. Zangrando and Argel will play from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. nightly.
On Thursday, Sept. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Duke’s Beach House in Kaanapali, the Maui Jazz & Blues Festival Sneak Peek Kickoff will feature stars of some of the major upcoming concert events: the Jazz Alley TV Duo with Uyetake and Hendricks; Grammy winner and Blues Music Hall of Famer Joe Louis Walker; Cajun Zydeco with Wayne Toups, Steve Riley and Wilson Savoy of Court Bouillon; Grammy-nominated sax master Javon Jackson from New York City; Grammy-winning trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis from New Orleans; and Canadian trumpet master Gabriel Mark Hasselbach.
Also on Sept. 8 at Hula Grill from 6 to 9 p.m., the Maui Jazz & Blues Festival Dinner Kickoff will feature the Jazz Alley TV Trio with Paul Marchetti on drums, Dave Graber on bass and Brian Cuomo on piano, Hendricks, Uyetake, Walker, Toups, Riley, Savoy, Marsalis and Hasselbach.
