Talented actor portrays Twain, Einstein at Lahaina shows

By Staff | Feb 4, 2016

Continuing on the success of his “An Evening with Mark Twain” shows at the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina, Rick Scheideman is adding “An Evening with Albert Einstein” performances this year.

LAHAINA – Barefoot and rumpled, he stands before the chalkboard puzzled, scratching his head. He rubs out an equation and steps back to consider it. Then, with chalk in hand, he writes a new equation in an effort to understand the universe. Pleased with himself, Albert Einstein turns toward the audience and speaks.

Last year, local actor Rick Scheideman and Production Manager Joel Agnew brought “An Evening with Mark Twain” to the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina. It was an exquisite one-man show.

This year, “An Evening with Mark Twain” returns to the Pioneer Inn, but in addition, it will be alternating weekly with another of Scheideman’s one-man productions, “An Evening with Albert Einstein.”

The Maui News theater critic Michael Pulliam wrote of Scheideman, “From Mark Twain, to Einstein, to Sitting Bull, this actor has the ability to look and be almost unidentifiable from one show to the next. If acting skill combined with a Lon Chaney-esque ‘Man of a Thousand Faces’ equals acting brilliance, then Scheideman is the best actor on Maui.”

Come see for yourself. Tickets for all shows are $20.

Each performance begins at 6:30 p.m. on Fridays in the Pioneer Inn Courtyard. Performances dates are: “An Evening with Albert Einstein” on Feb. 19, March 11 and 25, April 8 and 22, and May 6 and 20; and “An Evening with Mark Twain” on March 4 and 18, April 1 and 15, and May 13 and 27.
