LAHAINA – Lahaina Cannery Mall will hold its Chinese New Year event on Saturday, Jan. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The enigmatic crew from Au’s Shaolin Arts Society will light 20,000 firecrackers at the mall’s main entrance to “wake” the lions, which will then parade through the mall to the center stage.
Ben Seng Au, leader of the group, will talk about the significance of the new year to the Chinese and narrate a martial arts demonstration.
Next, the lions return to roam the mall and “bite” onlookers for good fortune in the new year.
