Master Ben Seng Au addresses The Wharf Cinema Center’s special guests at the 26th annual Chinese New Year celebration.

LAHAINA – Wake up the sleeping lions and celebrate the arrival of the new lunar Year of the Dragon at The Wharf Cinema Center on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 11:30 a.m.

The Wharf’s 27th annual Chinese New Year celebration will be led by Master Ben Seng Au and Au’s Shaolin Arts Society.

Lahaina’s keiki will gather at The Wharf Cinema Center to celebrate the Chinese New Year. At the Front Street entrance of The Wharf, fireworks will crackle as the celebration begins.

The dancing lions will make their way down to center stage as the drums beat to announce their arrival. Special guests anxiously waiting are the kindergarteners of King Kamehameha III and Sacred Hearts School, and preschoolers from Holy Innocents, Sacred Hearts and Kama’aina Kids Lahaina.

After the playful lions perform, the children eagerly feed the Red Lai See envelopes to the hungry lions for good luck in the year to come.

The public is invited to come on down and celebrate. Admission is free. The Wharf Shops and Restaurants are located at 658 Front St. across from the Banyan Tree. Call 661-8748.
