Chinese New Year Brunch set at Kaanapali Beach Hotel

Bill Mays and Phil Benoit will present “An Intimate Evening of Jazz” in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s McCoy Studio Theater at 7:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 19. Jazz pianist, composer and arranger Mays will joins local jazz guitarist Benoit for “blow your socks off” jazz. A guest appearance by the silken-voiced Angela Benoit (pictured with Phil) makes this a must-see show. Stay after for a “Meet the Artists” gathering in McCoy Courtyard. KAANAPALI – Kung Hee Fat Choy! Come and celebrate the Year of the Dragon at Kaanapali Beach Hotel’s Chinese New Year Celebration Brunch on Sunday, Jan. 29.

A 21-year tradition, Kaanapali Beach Hotel will have fireworks and lion dances by Au’s Shaolin Arts Society at 9 and 11 a.m.

This year’s brunch will also feature live Hawaiian music and free flowing champagne.

The holiday feast features a sumptuous buffet with over 50 items, including Asian delicacies like crispy won tons, egg rolls, steamed mini manapua, Chinese roasted duck, cashew chicken with cake noodles, shrimp and snow peas, sweet and sour pork ribs, spicy beef stir-fry, calamari with choy sum and black bean, and kau yuk (Chinese roasted pork).

There will be an iced seafood bar, and chefs will be carving slow-roasted prime rib.

Finish the brunch with specialty desserts, including Chinese pretzels, almond cookies and fortune cookies.

Brunch will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The price is $38.95 for adults. Children 12 and younger are $22, and children five and under eat free with each paid adult.
