Celebrate limu at Hana festival

By Staff | Nov 3, 2011

This year’s Hana Limu Festival will be dedicated to the memory of Pekelo Cosma. The late slack key artist and composer supported the festival and other community-based conservation efforts to protect his beloved Hana Coast.

HANA – The third annual Hana Limu Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Hana Bay.

This event promotes a deeper understanding of native limu – not only as an ‘ono, nutritious part of the traditional Hawaiian diet, but for its vital importance to the health of the nearshore ecosystem, serving as food and shelter for small herbivorous fish.

Come out to Kapueokahi (Hana Bay) for this fun, cultural and educational event.

Talk story with honored kupuna, who will share their traditional knowledge, limu identification and sampling; limu planting; cooking demonstrations; keiki games; Digital Bus interactive science activities; silent auction; live music; food; and information and craft booths.

The free event is sponsored by Na Mamo O Mu’olea.
