WAILUKU — Wailuku First Friday’s OctoberFEST event will transform Wailuku Town into a high-energy street party on Friday, Oct. 7, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Working its multi-sensory magic on the Maui Thing stage will be headliner Moth XP, whose all-original sets take musical creation to new heights without the use of any loops or prerecorded tracks.

Magician Timothy Wenk will be joined on the street by Brenton Keith and his “Bag o’ Tricks.” The strolling magicians will amaze children and adults with their sleight-of-hand magic and comic banter.

Kalama Intermediate School’s Ukulele Band, under the direction of Benny Uyetake, will take the stage at Wailuku Banyan Tree Park at 6 p.m. The Gene Argel Band, Wailuku First Friday favorites, will play at Café O Lei.

Native Hawaiian culture will abound at Native Intelligence with fresh kulolo, an awa bar and Hawaiian food. Back by popular demand, the beer garden will feature cold drafts; proceeds benefit Na Leo Kako’o, Hawaiian Immersion Kula Kaiapuni.

Artisans, crafters, sidewalk vendors and an array of local cuisine can all be enjoyed street-side along Market Street. Other delights await along Vineyard, Church and up to Main Street, as Wailuku First Friday expands to neighboring streets.

Be on the lookout for the innovative local talent, art and healthy treats that will be showcased from 5 to 9 p.m. at EXHALE at 1995 Main St. on the second floor. And on Church Street, view the work of Swan Interiors’ featured artist Anna Good, and indulge in sweet treats at Maui Bake Shop.

Market Street will close at 5:30 p.m. for the festival. Parking is available off Main Street in the Maui Medical Group parking lot and throughout Wailuku Town. For vendor information and reservations, contact Teri Edmonds at 249-9710. For event information, call Yuki Lei Sugimura at 878-1888.
