Registration under way for fall semester at MAPA
KAHANA — Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) is holding registration for its fall semester of dance, drama and singing classes.
More than 90 weekly classes for students ages one to adult are being offered at the MAPA Main Studios in downtown Wailuku and at Sports Club Kanaha on the West Side.
Classes begin Aug. 22 and run through Dec. 17. In addition to classes in ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, contemporary, Broadway dance and acting, MAPA has added some new offerings this semester.
For example, in Glee Club on Tuesday afternoons in Wailuku, students ages 11 and up will gain confidence in their singing and dancing in a fun and supportive environment. They’ll learn choreography to the songs they sing while building a solid foundation of singing technique, including pitch, breath support, diction and phrasing. No experience is necessary!
In “Mommy & Me” on Friday mornings, toddlers ages one to two-and-a-half and their caregivers will have fun dancing together under the expert instruction of MAPA dance teacher Rebecca Owen and her daughter, Ivy.
Tuition for MAPA classes is $275 to $325 for the semester. Multiple discounts are available, including a 10 percent discount for students paying in full during the Early Registration period through July 29. Scholarships for students ages nine and up are also available.
