Growing Dreams to benefit Maui Youth & Family Services

WAILEA — Growing Dreams will celebrate its 11th year with the special theme of “Retro Color Explosion.”

The 2011 event will feature Floral Trend Consultant Kevin Ylvisaker as the guest floral designer.

Ylvisaker will work with splashes of color, reminiscent of the 1960s when tie-dye and jeans were the trend.

“Many of us, including myself, grew up in the ’60s, when things were new and colors were vibrant,” he said.

“This show will take us back in time to explore how those colors and trends influenced the design styles of today. So if you’re in the mood to be feeling groovy, this is the show to see.”

Maui Youth & Family Services’ signature event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6, at the Fairmont Kea Lani Resort in Wailea from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. In addition to a fabulous luncheon and floral design workshop, there will also be silent and live auctions.

Tickets for the event are $125 ($150 for VIP seating). Guests may purchase tickets online by visiting www.myfs.org and going to the Growing Dreams page. For more information, call 579-8414, extension 8118.

Helen McCord, owner of Kula Botanical Gardens on Maui, is the chairperson for the 11th annual Growing Dreams.

“We are thrilled to be returning to the Fairmont Kea Lani this year,” she said. “Growing Dreams is a very unique event, partnering the beautiful flowers of the island with an agency that builds better lives with Hawaii’s families.”

The event committee seeks corporate sponsors and silent auction donors for the MYFS fundraiser.

“As fun and glamorous as Growing Dreams always is, we want to remember what it’s all about,” said McCord.

“Ultimately, the show helps MYFS provide services for Maui’s at-risk children. We believe that regardless of their circumstances, youth can reach their goals with the help of caring, loving foster families and staff members. All of the proceeds from Growing Dreams remain on Maui and are used to provide essentials for our programs.”
