Hoku Award winners to perform in slack key concert

Lap steel ethnomusicologist Bob Brozman will make a rare appearance at the June 22 concert.
NAPILI — George Kahumoku Jr.’s “Slack Key Show — Masters of Hawaiian Music” will feature a multi-artist show on Wednesday June 22.
Set for 7:30 p.m. at Napili Kai Beach Resort’s Pavilion, the show will feature 2011 Na Hoku Hanohano Award winners Jeff Peterson (“Island Album of the Year”) and Herb Ohta Jr. (“Instrumental Album of the Year”); as well as the legendary Ledward Kaapana; lap steel ethnomusicologist Bob Brozman; guitar and ukulele star Keoki Kahumoku from the Big Island; Maui’s own gentle slack key master, Kevin Brown; high-energy series regulars Da Ukulele Boyz, Peter deAquino and Garrett Probst; and Sterling Seaton.
To purchase tickets ($39.99 plus tax), visit www.slackkey.com or call 669-3858. A convenient sinner/show package is also available.
Why so many artists? George Kahumoku is holding his 14th annual Slack Key Guitar & Ukulele Workshop at the Mauian Hotel, and these instructors and more are on-island.
A few student openings are still available for this week-long cultural event from June 19-26 at the Mauian and Napili Kai Beach Resort.
