LAHAINA — The King Kamehameha III Elementary School Arts Committee held an art show on March 9th.

Some 160 students entered the contest, and a well-known local artist was invited to judge the show. Awards were given for first, second and third place in every grade level, and grand prizes were awarded for first place in each grade.

The first place winners were: Krystaleia Bettencourt, fifth grade; Kaohulani Palakiko, fourth grade; Kiana Kirkman, third grade, Kulia Gasper, second grade; Alexa Mupas, first grade; and Brianna Campos-Gomez, kindergarten.

Two students also received national awards from Art Stamps.com. Brianna Campos-Gomez won a presidential award, and Grace Takemoto received a national award. Both received a framed picture of their work and a cash prize.

All images from the show can still be viewed online at www.artstamps.com. When you purchase any of the images as postage stamps, 25 percent of the sale goes back to King Kamehameha III School.

Prizes were donated by local businesses, including Hula Grill, Island Fro Yo, Trilogy, UFO Parasail, Pacific Whale Foundation, Boss Frog’s, Mala restaurant, Lahaina Pizza Co., Cool Cat Cafe, Outback Steakhouse, and Pizza Hut/Taco Bell.
