KIHEI — The Maui Choral Arts Association will present its sixth annual “Lei of Stars” Maui Choral Festival on Saturday, March 19.

The show will begin at 7 p.m. at Kihei Baptist Chapel, 1655 S. Kihei Road.

This event will feature the Maui Concert Chorus and, for the first time as guest conductor, internationally known conductor Dr. Donald Neuen.

The head of the Music Department at UCLA, Dr. Neuen will also conduct a three-day workshop for Maui singers on March 17-19, culminating with the March 19 concert.

This annual community event celebrates the power and joy of choral singing.

“We are excited to be featuring Donald Neuen, who is world-renowned,” said Celia Canty, the Maui Choral Arts Association’s artistic director. “Selections will include operatic and sacred music — both modern and from the classical and baroque periods — as well as Hawaiian.

Tickets are $15 in advance until March 18 or $20 at the door. Advance tickets are available from participating chorus singers, by phoning (800) 838-3006 or by purchasing online at MauiMusicArts.org. There is a 50 percent discount for students with ID and all youth 18 and under.

During the three-day workshop, Neuen will rehearse eight selections of four-part choral music, including several that will be featured in the March 19 festival.
