Maui Pops’ guest pianist to present ‘Classical Sampler’

KAHULUI — Guest artist Sara Buechner will join the Maui Pops Orchestra in presenting a “Classical Sampler” on Sunday, Jan. 30, with symphony music of the master composers: Mozart, Brahms, Smetana and Beethoven.
The concert will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater.
An award-winning pianist and international performer, Buechner will perform Beethoven’s “4th Concerto.”
Buechner is a Juilliard graduate who received her doctorate at Manhattan School of Music. She is now an associate professor at the University of British Columbia.
The Maui Pops Orchestra, founded in 2004, is dedicated to presenting classical, light classical, Broadway, opera and choral music.
The orchestra wishes to entertain, educate and empower its audience to fully enjoy the broad spectrum of music written for the symphony orchestra.
Orchestra founder James Durham is musical director and conductor, and the orchestra’s musicians range from longtime professionals to talented youngsters. Most are Maui residents.
