McChristian, O’Donnell to teach oil painting workshops

By Staff | Jan 13, 2011

WEST MAUI — Join California artist Jennifer McChristian or Missouri artist Billyo O’Donnell to learn their award-winning techniques in plein air oil painting.

Each artist will teach a three-day plein air oil painting workshop in association with the Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational on Feb. 19-26, 2011. The cost for each workshop is $350.

McChristian’s workshop will take place on Feb. 15-17. She will teach the interpretation of nature in terms of paint and the use of light and color to create form.

Her aim in this workshop is to teach participants to “think, see and express.”

O’Donnell’s workshop will take place on Feb. 28 to March 2. He will show how mastering the fundamentals of oil painting and understanding the visual expressions of paint will create the doorway to self expression.

Both workshops are open to all levels of painters who would like to learn the joy of painting.

To embrace art education for the young, MPAPI workshop teachers donate one full scholarship to a Maui high school senior going on to study art after graduation.

Interested students are encouraged to discuss this scholarship opportunity with their art teacher.

To enroll in a workshop, contact Bonnie Fox, MPAPI workshop chair, at bonnie.fox@sympatico.ca.
