LAHAINA — The nonprofit Lahaina Arts Association recently held a Special Artist’s Reception at the Old Jail Gallery in Lahaina to award partial scholarships to Maui County high school seniors pursuing an education in the visual arts.

More than 20 graduating seniors from Maui County submitted their art for exhibition and consideration in the scholarship competition.

With over 40 pieces of art entered, competition was strong. Lynn Shue, owner of Lahaina’s Village Galleries, juried the competition.

The winners are:

Best in Show ($1,000) — Lori Nishikawa for her mixed-media piece, “Hidden Children;”

Painting ($500) — Cesar Valentin Miro-Quesada for “Morning Light;”

Drawing ($500) — Alexandra Embernate for “Me Under the Sea;”

Three-Dimensional ($500) — Lori Nishikawa for “Transformation;”

Photography ($500) — Zach Pezzillo for “The Lookout;”

Mixed Media ($500) — Lori Nishikawa for her mixed-media piece called “Hidden Children.”

Artwork in the contest is on display at the Old Jail Gallery in the Old Lahaina Courthouse until Dec. 31.

Families and community members are welcome to view the exhibit and join Lahaina Arts Association in celebrating Maui County’s young artists!
