‘Halloween Spooktacular’ to benefit Cameron Center

“I guess no matter how old you are, everyone loves to dress up for Halloween,” said Cameron Center Executive Director César Gaxiola.

WAILEA — The J. Walter Cameron Center’s signature fundraiser, “A Halloween Spooktacular,” will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.

“Our first ‘Spooktacular’ was so successful that our guests begged us to do it again, so you can say it’s back this year by popular demand,” said César Gaxiola, the Cameron Center’s executive director.

Although costumes are not required, they are strongly encouraged.

“Scary or funny, traditional or inventive, the best costumes that night will win some pretty cool prizes,” promised event Chair Brian Klaschka.

A memorable highlight of the “Halloween Spooktacular” is the hilarious stage performance planned by members of the Maui County Council, including Cameron Center Board Member and Upcountry Councilwoman Gladys Baisa, who has been known to perform as her alter ego, Patsy Cline.

Honolulu TV and radio personality Kimo Kahoano is slated to serve as the evening’s emcee.

The $99 event ticket includes a Halloween theme buffet dinner, silent and live auctions, costume contest, entertainment and dancing the night away to the sounds of Elvis and the All-Star Band.

For another $99, you can spend the night, because the Wailea Marriott is offering a special room rate (plus applicable taxes) exclusively for event guests.

“This event could not be possible without the generous support of Bill Countryman, general manager of the Wailea Marriott Resort & Spa, and his entire staff,” said Greg Chou, chairman of the board for the J. Walter Cameron Center.

“They are going above and beyond to make this fund-raiser a grand success for everyone.”

The Cameron Center is home to more than 20 nonprofit agencies that provide health and human services to Maui residents with special needs. The private 501c3 nonprofit organization is supported primarily by donations from the Maui community.

“Halloween Spooktacular” sponsorship opportunities start at $990 for a table of ten and include many value-added components.

“We encourage everyone to purchase their tickets early, because space is limited and we expect a full house. We’ve already reserved tables for many who attended last year,” said Greg Chou.
