WAIKAPU — The Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (MYPO) will hold a dinner and benefit concert in the Banquet Room at Maui Tropical Plantation on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 20.

Uluwehi Guerrero, the 2010 Hawaiian Album of the Year winner at the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, will perform with dancers from his Halau Hula Kauluokala.

Seventeen-year-old cello prodigy Riana Anthony will perform a solo by Paganini, followed by two selections by Honolulu’s Lifen Anthony Cello Quintet.

The evening will close with open salsa and Latin dancing to the tunes of The Latin Project from Shanghai, Asia’s premier salsa and Latin jazz band.

Concert proceeds will support the Maui Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (MYPO).

The event will begin with a silent auction at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. The music program begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $75 or $700 for a table of eight with preferred seating. Tickets can be purchased at Maui Specialty Chocolates at 180 E. Wakea St. in Kahului, Ululani’s Shave Ice or with credit card or Paypal at mauiyouthphilharmonic.org/support/.

MYPO is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing orchestra and ensemble music education and performance opportunities to the children and youth of Maui County.

Since its inception in 2005, MYPO has played a vital role in promoting musical achievement among the youth of Maui by offering a variety of music programs not otherwise available on-island.

MYPO offers instruction in orchestral string instruments (violin, viola, cello and bass), which are not taught in the public schools.
