MPA students to stage musical
NAPILI — The Middle School Drama program and Upper School Rock Band of Maui Preparatory Academy (MPA) will present “13” at the ‘Ulalena Theatre in Lahaina on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 6:30 p.m.
“13” is a Broadway musical with lyrics and music by Jason Robert Brown.
The story follows the life of 13-year-old Evan Goldman (main character played by Santana Huck) as he moves from New York City to Appleton, Indiana.
The move conflicts with the celebration of his Bar Mitzvah — a Jewish tradition of becoming a man).
“I can relate to some of the characters in this musical, because I’m turning 13 this year,” said Joshua Ancheta, one of the major cast members.
“I’m inviting all the intermediate and high school students to come and watch this fun-filled production and be entertained,” he added.
This musical is rated PG and contains material that may not be suitable for young viewers. It is recommended for students in fifth grade and up.
Ticket prices are $15 (pre-sale) and $20 at the door for adults (18-59), and $10 (pre-sale) and $15 at the door for students and seniors age 60 and up. Tickets are available for purchase from any cast member or at the MPA office.
“13” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International of New York.
