Fur Ball to support Maui Humane Society

By Staff | Dec 31, 2009

PUUNENE — What do polyester leisure suits, the Bee Gees, Grand Wailea Resort and Maui animals have in common? The annual Maui Humane Society (MHS) Fur Ball.

MHS announced plans for its 2010 Fur Ball on Saturday, March 20, at the Grand Wailea.

Considered one of Maui’s top events of the year, the 2010 event theme is “Disco Infurno: An Evening at Kennel 54.” Dust off your disco duds and plan to attend!

Extend the evening into a weekend “fur-cation” at Grand Wailea with special rates being offered exclusively for Fur Ball guests.

The gala evening will begin at 5 p.m. in the Haleakala Ballroom with dinner, live and silent auctions, entertainment, disco dance contest, building of the $10,000 mirror ball and a jewelry “Disco-tique” sponsored by Jere Diamonds and Fine Jewelry. The event’s emcee will be none other than Maui’s very own divine diva, Alaka‘i Paleka.

Then boogie on over to Kennel 54 — the resort’s Tsunami Night Club — and shake your booty to the disco sounds of Maui deejay Dan Viola.

The nightclub will be open one night only for this special event.

Fur Ball tickets are $150 each (including entry to Kennel 54) or $125 for the dinner/auction event only.

Grand Wailea is offering special room rates for Fur Ball guests; rates range from $199 per night for a Terrace Room to $325 for a Deluxe Ocean room. For overnight reservations, Fur Ball guests should contact Grand Wailea directly at 875-1234 and ask for reservation code GMHS. For more information on the resort, visit www.GrandWailea.com.

Purchase your tickets, host a table, sign on as a sponsor or donate an auction item now for the 2010 Fur Ball.

Sponsorship levels range from $500 to $15,000, and quality live and silent auction items are welcome.

Proceeds from the annual Fur Ball support the Maui Humane Society in its efforts to serve the community and provide care and compassion to Maui’s animals.

In related news, MHS has teamed with nearly 3,500 shelters from around the world to participate in the annual “Home 4 the Holidays” pet adoption campaign through Jan. 4, 2010.

The Maui shelter’s goal is to find forever homes for 250 animals in need. To date, MHS has completed 77 successful adoptions and needs your help to make or break the goal.

With as many as 10,000 animals passing through the doors of MHS each year, it is important that everyone get involved to help save an orphaned animal this holiday season, the organization reported.

The team at MHS is specially trained and can help families choose the perfect pet for their personalities and lifestyles.

All dogs, cats, puppies and kittens adopted during the “Home 4 the Holidays” campaign will go home with an adoption kit that includes information with tips to help the new parent and their furry friend get off on the right paw.

Join MHS and help homeless animals this holiday season by opening your hearts and homes. Maui’s adoptable pets can be seen at www.mauihumanesociety.org or www.petfinder.com, or stop by the shelter along Mokulele Highway in person.
