Host culture honored with Keiki Hula Festival

Keiki perform hula at Lahaina Cannery Mall during the 2008 Keiki Hula Festival. This year’s event will take place July 25-26 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
LAHAINA — Celebrate the talent and grace of Maui’s keiki at Lahaina Cannery Mall’s 11th annual Keiki Hula Festival on Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26.
This free event will feature eight halau (dance troupes) from across the island presenting richly choreographed kahiko (ancient) and ‘auana (modern) hula that express the traditional values of Hawaii and the Pacific Islands.
The weekend celebration also features Hawaiian artisans and crafters demonstrating lei-making, wood carving and other traditional skills.
Shop the Sizzling Summer Sidewalk Sale for summer and beachwear bargains, as well as back-to-school supplies and clothes.
Halau will take the stage every other hour beginning at 11 a.m., with the last performance at 5 p.m. each day.
The lineup on Saturday includes Mana Toa at 11 a.m., Na Kamalii O Ke Akua at 1 p.m., Te Tiare Patitifa at 3 p.m. and Na Pua Malia at 5 p.m.
On Sunday, Halau Manutea will dance at 11 a.m., followed by Halau Hula O Keola Aliiokekai at 1 p.m., Na Kamalii Nani O Lahaina at 3 p.m. and Na Wahine Nani O Lahaina at 5 p.m.
