‘Dhvani’ coming to West Maui

By Staff | Jun 4, 2009

Tala Records and Darshan Dance will present “Dhvani: An Evening of Sacred Dance and Classical Music of India” in two Maui shows.

The production will be performed Friday, June 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater, and Saturday, June 6, at 7 p.m. at Napili Kai Beach Resort’s Aloha Pavilion in West Maui.

Preeminent classical musician Ty Burhoe (Tabla) and dancer Sarala Dandekar (Odissi Dance) collaborate to create an authentic, inspiring cultural experience based on traditional Indian Odissi and Japanese Yasokoi Dance with live classical music.

Steve Oda (Sarode) and Akari Ueoka (Yosakoi Dance) round out this amazing, world-class performance troupe.

Experience the beauty, elegance and grace of sacred dance, with mesmerizing ragas and electrifying rhythms that will elevate your spirits.

Tickets for the MACC show are $18 or $28 (half price for kids and students under 18); call 242-SHOW or visit www.mauiarts.org.

For the Napili show, tickets are $25 at the door (half price for students 18 and under) or through Tala Ticketing at www.talarecords.com.

Enhancing the international theme, Maui’s Indian restaurant, Shangri-La by the Sea, will cater both events.
