‘Aina Gourmet Market to celebrate grand opening

By Staff | May 28, 2009

HONOKOWAI — ‘Aina Gourmet Market in the Honua Kai Resort & Spa will celebrate its grand opening with live entertainment, product freebies, discounts and family activities on Sunday, May 31, from noon to 4 p.m.

The culinary crew behind Lahaina’s popular Pacific’O and I’o restaurants opened ‘Aina Gourmet Market, a fine foods store and cafe.

The event will feature Hawaiian music by Glenn Kakugawa, lei-stringing, face painting, coffee roasting demos, complimentary menu sampling and popcorn, and a spectacular chocolate fountain.

A 10 percent kama‘aina discount will be honored all day (with Hawaii state identification), and coconut drinks in their hull and cocktails will be available for purchase.

The venture is based on the “100-Mile Market” concept, utilizing products from within a 100-mile radius.

“Local products are more fresh, often more nutritional and good for our local economy,” said Market Manager Angel Green.

“We stock Maui produce first, preferably from smaller farms and island-based businesses.”

The market offers fresh eggs, organic produce, meats, wines, chocolates, coffee, smoothies, gelato, panini, specialty gifts and customized gift baskets.

Some of the vendors include Olowalu Farms, Ono Farms, Maui Cattle Company, Anahola Granola, Oils of Aloha, Maui Brewing Co. and the market’s own O‘o Farm.

Market hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. For more information, contact Green at 662-2832 or visit www.ainagourmet.com.
