Discarded objects become artwork in unique show
KAHULUI — Community Workday Program and Sharing Aloha will present “The Art of Trash, Maui 2009” at Maui Mall.
Awards night will be held on Friday, May 22, starting at 7 p.m., and entries can be viewed at the mall through June 20.
This intriguing exhibition showcases the creative work of artists who take every day discarded objects and bring them back to life as art! Recycling at its finest!
Big Island artist Ira Ono, founder and creator of many trash shows and the “Father of Recycled Art” in the state, will be the juror for this popular event.
He started “The Trash Show” in Hilo in 1991 and on Maui in 1996. The last “Art of Trash” Maui was held in 2003.
All artists who enjoy creating art out of “trash” are welcome to enter this juried show.
