Mauled, Missing and Maui Leash Laws
In the paper today there was the following article: Leash Your Dog – It’s The Law The Maui Humane Society sees far too many dogs pay the price for their human’s irresponsibility. Dogs are killed or injured by passing cars, targeted for abuse by annoyed neighbors, or brought in for euthanasia after biting or attacking a child, adult, or another animal. These tragic scenarios could have been avoided if the dog’s owner had provided proper restraint for their pet. Allowing dogs to wander or run off-leash is illegal on Maui. With very few exceptions, dogs are required to be restrained at all times. Pet owners who allow their dogs to roam free are putting the animal’s welfare at risk, creating a nuisance to neighbors and a possible danger to humans, domestic pets, and wildlife. When I returned home to Wahikuli this evening, I found our beloved cat had been mauled to death by a pack of 2 unleashed dogs iIN OUR YARD and the wherabouts of the other cat is unknown
