April 9, 2020
Lahaina News

LAHAINA - The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is awarding two $2,500 academic scholarships to two graduating seniors who live in West Maui, Hana or Molokai and attend a Maui or Molokai high school.

The students should demonstrate superior academic abilities, involvement in school activities and a winning character profile, and they must be pursuing a field of study that will benefit the environment.

The scholarship highlights the club's commitment to support the educational goals of local youth.

"Knowledge is power, and we are thrilled to help a senior student reach his or her educational goals," said Erica Gale, Youth Service chair.

"We're pleased to support the education of two local students who will have the opportunity to continue sustainability efforts on Maui well into the future," she added.

The academic awards also reflect the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset's focus on environmental initiatives, a core mission that is realized through sustainability projects such as the installation and maintenance of rescue tubes at West Maui beach parks and its "Go For The Green" Third Saturday Recycling events.

The Third Saturday Recycling events will resume when the COVID-19 stay-at-home decree is lifted.

The application deadline is May 1, 2020. To receive a scholarship application, or to learn more about the award, e-mail Club Secretary Joanne Laird at mamalrd01@gmail.com or call/text her at (808) 757-0981. n
