Sentry Tournament of Champions is just around the corner

September 12, 2019
BY ALEX URBAN, Sentry Tournament of Champions  , Lahaina News

What a year it's been on the PGA Tour - from Brooks Koepka's continued dominance to Tiger Woods' historical and emotional win at Augusta, it has been a year punctuated by veteran stars and new faces like Matthew Wolff and Collin Morikawa. And this year began with Xander Schauffele's triumph at the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

The tour now turns its focus to the fall schedule, and players still have 11 chances to qualify for our tournament here on Maui. Qualifying for the Sentry Tournament of Champions is always a highlight for any player who lifts a trophy on the PGA Tour.

I was lucky enough to connect with one of our past champions, Justin Thomas, a few weeks ago in Atlanta, and he said he was so relieved to finally pick up a win at the BMW Championship so that he could bring his family back here to kick off 2020 in paradise. If that's not an A-plus endorsement, I'm not sure what is.

After an extensive refinement project, The Plantation Course is set to reopen prior to the Sentry Tournament of Champions, and it will be showcased to the world in January.

With such a prestigious and unique field, the Sentry Tournament of Champions is one of the focal points of the PGA Tour season, and the event has great momentum.

The Plantation Course is set to reopen prior to the tournament after an extensive refinement project and will be showcased to the world in January. Couple that with a refreshed clubhouse and a committed title sponsor in Sentry Insurance, and you have the recipe for an incredible year.

And we are playing our part at the tournament as well, featuring new onsite experiences, one of which is a new venue, the Banyan Club. Located on the 8th hole, this ticket will offer fans a great way to experience the tournament in a social setting featuring soft seating, large TVs and upgraded food and beverage.

Our event truly has something for everyone, and now fans wishing to catch some of the NFL playoff action on the weekend have the perfect ticket option.

I mentioned our title sponsor and their commitment to making this event the very best it can be, and this commitment is underscored by their support of the local Maui community. Their main goal is to have all the charitable dollars generated stay on the island, and in June they were on hand at Hale Makua Health Services to announce that more than $345,000 was generated for local charities from the 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions, a number we will work tirelessly to grow.

We are so proud of what we are able to do for the community, and if you want to be involved and be part of the team that makes it possible to make those donations, we would be honored to have you as a volunteer in January.

Visit sentrytournamentofchampions.com for more information, as registration is open.

The Sentry Tournament of Champions is right around the corner, and we couldn't be more excited.
