Lahainaluna track coach wins gold medals at national meet

LAHAINA - A West Side wife, mom, business entrepreneur, and Lahainaluna High School track and field coach has done it again! Cynthia Monteleone, 43, recently returned to Maui with a cache of gold medals won at the United States of America Track and Field Masters Outdoor Championships at Ames, Iowa, on July 11-14.

Monteleone, the wife of Luna wrestling coach Zane Monteleone, mother of three daughters, MAM Metabolic Analytics Practitioner and head LHS track and field coach won five gold medals and a silver at the elite age group event.

She won golds in the 400-meter, 800-meter, shot put, 4 x 100 relay and 4 x 400 relay, and a silver in the 200-meter.

She ran a 59.85 in the 400-meter race that is her specialty, and holds the 40-44 world record with a 57.5 time and is the world champion in this event. Cynthia competes with the Southwest Sprinters Track Club in the relays. She is coached by Rudy Huber of Maui.

"Thank you to my family - especially my husband, Zane - and to the Lahaina community for their continuing support. I love getting to represent Maui and Hawaii at these big meets. And now I am looking forward to another world championship for Team USA next July of 2020 in Toronto at the WMA World Meet," she concluded.
