Westsider Ocean Lipstein, 7, will compete in the 37th Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s in Hurricane Mills, TN, from July 30 to Aug. 4. The youngster is ranked in the top 42 in the country in her age group.

"Ocean is really dedicated to motocross. She's a hard-working girl who lives, eats, breathes it. She grew up riding bikes in the West Maui Mountains and at the track in Puunene," said her dad, Jeff Lipstein.

Ocean has been riding with her dad since she was three years old, currently goes to the track in Central Maui three times a week and rides with him every evening before dinner.

"She rides in all of the Maui Motocross Association events and races all the top boys. I'm her riding partner and trainer," he added.

The hard-driving youngster recently traveled to California and qualified for the 37th Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn's in Hurricane Mills, TN, from July 30 to Aug. 4.

After becoming the first girl from Maui to accomplish the feat, at the prestigious national competition Ocean could become the first girl to reach the podium.

She first raced in local events in Hawaii and then advanced to the Midwest Regionals at Sacramento in area qualifiers to make it to the event in Tennessee.

Ocean qualified at the Midwest Regional at Sacramento with an AMA #1 plate to earn a spot in the top 42 in the country in her age group.

She has raced in the Ryan Villa Potos MX Cup, where she took third place; the FMF California Classics for second place; and gold cup finishes at both the Southern California Mix and at the AME Mini-Cross events.
