According to designers, many traditional Hawaiian patterns and designs — in kapa and weaving, weaponry and tools, tattoo and adornment — take their visual clues from nature.

The event, which was launched in Honolulu in 2006, features emcees Vicky Takamine and Robert Cazimero. A component of the Maoli Arts Movement, the wearable art show celebrates Hawaiian design in fabric and clothing - specifically in terms of cultural motif - in a way that makes it more than just a runway fashion show.

This year's wearable art event will showcase creations by Kawika Lum-Nelmida, Kehaulani Nielson, Kanoelani Davis, Ari South, Anna Kahalekulu, Lufi Luteru and Micah Kamohoali'i. Tickets are $35, $45 or $65 (VIP); call 242-SHOW or visit
