Lahaina Restoration Foundation orders new flagpole for Lahaina Harbor

Lahaina News

LAHAINA - Lahaina Restoration Foundation last week announced that the fundraiser for the replacement of the flagpole at Lahaina Harbor is now complete due to the generous and swift outpouring of support from the community.

North Beach West Maui Benefit Fund provided a matching donation to the community's contribution, and the $25,000 goal has now been achieved.

The flagpole has been ordered, and structural drawings needed for building permits are underway.

The cannons will remain on each side of the new flagpole.

The names of all donors who contributed $500 or more will be inscribed on a plaque to be placed at the base of the flagpole.

The old wood Lahaina Town flagpole fell down in 2013 on a wet and windy day due to rot and termite damage.

LRF reported that the new flagpole will be a 50-foot aluminum pole with internal halyards and a white powder coating.

Its base will be wrapped in stone to match the trellises installed with the recent harbor front improvements. Its tiered cement foundation will be acid-stained to match existing brick pavers.

The harbor front improvements were conceived and planned by the community through a series of public meetings named "Imagine" in 2012.

This flagpole is the final installation to complete Phase I of the project, which provides shade, benches, native landscaping and interpretive plaques in a park-like setting.

The harbor front area is maintained daily by the Lahaina Restoration Foundation with a grant from the County of Maui Parks Department.
