Foreign policy crisis intrude on Obama vacations

CHILMARK, Mass. (AP) — President Barack Obama is planning to speak about the latest political developments in Iraq later this afternoon.

The White House said he would begin speaking at 4:45 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

The crisis in Iraq comes as Obama is vacationing on Martha's Vineyard. He was already expected to address the situation in Iraq during a Democratic fundraiser on the island Monday night.

The U.S. military launched airstrikes against militant targets in Iraq for the fourth day in a row. Also, Iraq's new president has announced a new nominee for prime minister — a move that marked a snub for incumbent Nouri al-Maliki (NOO'-ree ahl-MAHL'-ih-kee).
