Lahaina News

LAHAINA - The Board of Directors of Theatre Theatre Maui (TTM) have selected Nancy Taylor to succeed Angie Thompson effective May 1 as the next administrator of the nonprofit organization serving the West Side community.

Since its formation in 1991, TTM's primary mission remains "to provide a full spectrum of hands-on theater experiences for the children and adults of the West Maui community."

Taylor brings to TTM her shared passion for the performing arts along with an impressive background. Prior to her move to Maui, she worked in many areas on the Mainland to champion education access as a teacher, advocate and mentor.

TTM is located in Lahaina and is celebrating its 25th year of service to the West Side.

She's served in leadership roles for non-profits, foundations and universities, and actively participated in creative communities, most recently with Live Wire! Radio and Literary Arts.

A seasoned storyteller and writer, she serves as a creative writer for Asante Africa Foundation. Taylor also works on her own story and book projects, consults and engages with others to advance human rights and expression.

"We are excited to welcome Nancy Taylor as our new executive administrator," remarked Annabehl Sinclair-Delaney, TTM president.

"Her experience and enthusiasm will be a great asset to us as we celebrate our 25th year. TTM has grown much, and we hope to provide more programs to our West Side community in the future with her help."

Sinclair-Delaney continued, "We also take the opportunity to thank Angie Thompson for her dedication and great commitment to our organization over the last few years. She will be missed, and we wish her well in her future adventures."

TTM was recently involved with Lahainaluna High School's annual Shakespeare Monologue Competition and is currently in the midst of a six-month after-school drama program with the "Drama Queen," Kristi Scott, held at Lahaina Intermediate School.

TTM periodically holds afternoon improv classes for members of the Lahaina Boys and Girls Club. Its program plans now are focused on arrangements to produce its 25th summer youth program held in Lahaina.

This year's summer camp runs for six weeks, June 12 to July 23, 2017. Students will be immersed in all facets of theatre instruction, and the camp will culminate in live performances of "Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr.," licensed through Music Theatre International.

Registration is going on now for students entering the fourth grade in the 2017-18 school year and up to the age of 18.

Sponsored in part by the County of Maui Office of Economic Development, TTM's programs continue to be affordable through the support of generous donors and the business community.

This summer's tuition has been maintained at $425 and provides about 180 hours of instruction and performance time per student. Discounts for siblings, an early-bird cash payment discount and financial aid for qualified families are also available.

TTM also participates in fundraisers and will again participate in the annual Maui Visitor Industry Charity Walk on Saturday, May 13.
