July 21, 2016
Lahaina News

A program at Lahainaluna High School has achieved excellence on a global scale.

For many years, students in the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) at Lahainaluna have achieved wins at the Maui District, state and national contests.

In the 2015-16 school year, students qualified to attend the prestigious HOSA International Leadership Conference held last month at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

From left, Joanna Aceret and Mike Nguyen, Kamal Golaube, Calen Matsuda and Krizhna Bayudan placed in the top ten in their events at the HOSA International Leadership Conference.

Under the guidance of advisors Malia Shimomura and Marc Wataski, the Lahaina students this year competed against an international field of top HOSA students and achieved four top ten finishes: Mike Nguyen and Joanna Aceret in CPR/First Aid, Calen Matsuda in Prepared Speaking, Kamal Golaube in Sports Medicine and Krizhna Bayudan in Clinical Specialty.

Krystal Han also won a Recognition Award for the school's HOSA Happenings newsletter, and Shimomura was rightly awarded the Goodheart Wilcox Outstanding Advisor Award.

Congratulations to the advisors and students, who work hard throughout the year to prepare for these contests.

The Health Services Pathway has, year after year, proven to be an outstanding program to prepare students for future careers in healthcare and medicine.
