Pharmacy back in business in Maui Medical Group building

By Staff | Nov 26, 2015

LAHAINA – Rainbow Pharmacy recently reopened the pharmacy inside of the Maui Medical Group building on Prison Street in downtown Lahaina.

Offering prescription and over-the-counter medications, all customers are welcome: insured, uninsured, local or visiting.

The pharmacy location that was purchased by Walgreens and later closed reopened on July 27.

Leia Nu, pharmacy manager at Rainbow Pharmacy, said customers are pleased the location is back in business.

“Patients are happy that we are within walking distance from downtown Lahaina; not only the locals but the tourists arriving on the ships anchored at the Lahaina Harbor,” Nu explained.

“The Maui Medical Group patients are glad that we are conveniently located in the same building as their doctors, where they don’t have to drive anywhere else. They are also excited to see the familiar faces; having Yvonne there is an asset for us, as she has built many relationships with the community over the years.”

Staff Pharmacist Yvonne Johnston has served the Lahaina community for the last 30 years.

She worked for Valley Isle Pharmacy at the same location starting in 1991 and stayed on when the store was purchased by Walgreens in 2010.

Nu said service sets the Lahaina pharmacy apart.

“We pride ourselves on our level of service. We believe in getting to know our patients on a first name basis, treating everyone who walks through our doors like ‘ohana.

“We not only provide excellent service, but we keep the wait times down to a minimum. While retail chains are taking hours to fill prescriptions, we take minutes. We are always readily available to consult on prescription needs and answer any questions…”

No appointments are needed for vaccines, such as flu and Zostavax (shingles vaccine) shots.

Located at 130 Prison St., Rainbow Pharmacy is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

Dr. Kert Shuster founded Rainbow Pharmacy in Kihei in October 2010. He recently partnered with Stephen McGrail and has expanded Rainbow Pharmacy to Lahaina and Lanai on Oct. 1.
