Shopping for an iPhone case?

June 25, 2015
BY GEORGE GORDON • Computer Guru , Lahaina News

There are so many cases for the iPhone 6 Plus out there that it's hard to decide which one to buy. Well, here are a few good choices you might want to look at.

It's important to make sure your new case has a lip around the edges. If you want a case that has a battery pack, the $80 Incipio offGrid Express will charge a dead iPhone up to 100 percent and bring another one up to 30 percent.

Think you might lose yours in the bathtub? The new LifeProof Fre Power case will protect ya for only $130 - and will keep charging even if you drop it in the toilet. It's great for the beach or boating, too. Also, you can try out the new cases with credit card slots, like the Mujjo, for around $50.

Here are a couple of good apps that I recommend. The SmartNews app has some great features and lots of video clips. A new one called Pinterest has a really cool interface and will keep you glued to its wide variety of sites. The WAZE app can navigate your car to the nearest liquor store.

If you're a Kaiser Permanente member, you should download the KP.org app and sign up. You can send e-mails - including photos of your chronic athlete's foot - to your doctor and view your latest medical records.

It's hurricane season, and downloading the app Hurricane keeps you ahead of the newest storms coming ready to blow your roof off.

The app Pic Stitch allows you to paste pictures in many types of squares and rectangles. It's pretty cool. There is a new backup flash drive that I just ordered from HerringtonCatalog.com. It's called the I-Booster Flash Drive for $99.95. This flash drive will back up your photos, videos, music, contacts, calendar and docs, so that you can transfer them to your laptop and free up space.

Do you know what the Share Box does? Open up a news app and click on an article that you might want a friend to see. Now click on the Share Box, which looks like a box with an arrow pointing up. You get many options where you can share this website to Facebook, mail, messages, Dropbox and Twitter. "Add To Home Screen" places an icon on your home screen; next time, just click on the newly made icon and instantly connect to your website or selected article.

Here is a neat trick: press your Home Button and ask Siri to open up your camera app to take a quick picture, or ask Siri to quickly open up your calendar or photos.

Amazon offers same-day delivery to Prime members for $5.99 per order and nonmembers for $8.99.

Apple has quietly let it slip that the new operating system called El Capitan includes support for blocking ads. Won't it be cool to watch a news video clip without first watching a 300-second commercial for Viagra?

This fall, when iOS 9 is released, the iPad Air 2 will allow you to have a split screen running two different apps at the same time and multitasking. Goodbye laptops!
