LAHAINA - Thirteen labor, education, public safety and trade organizations have announced their endorsement of Sen. Roz Baker for re-election to the Hawaii State Senate, District 6 (South and West Maui).
Labor organizations endorsing Sen. Baker's candidacy are: Hawaii State AFL-CIO; ILWU Local 142; Hawaii Government Employees Association (HGEA); United Public Workers (UPW); Hawaii Building and Construction Trades Council AFL-CIO; Hawaii Carpenters Union; Hawaii Laborers' Union Local 368; International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers, Local Union 625; Operating Engineers Local 3; Hawaii Teamsters and Allied Workers, Local 996; Hawaii Firefighters Association; Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA); and the Realtors Hawaii Political Action Committee.
"Sen. Baker is committed to improving the benefits and protections for Hawaii's working people and their families, to grow our economy, to improve our communities and to protect the rights of all the people of our state," said Donna Domingo, president of ILWU Local 142.
"We support Roz Baker, as she believes that all workers deserve a healthy and safe workplace and that hard-won benefits are protected," said Randy Perreira, president of Hawaii State AFL-CIO.
"Roz Baker is a strong voice for teachers, students and public education," wrote Wil Okabe, president of HSTA.
"Sen. Baker has been a tremendous advocate for first-responders on public safety issues. Her dedication and commitment to public service on behalf of her community and the state is greatly appreciated," said Jeff Kihune, chair, Hawaii Firefighters Association, Maui Division.
"Maui Realtors support Roz Baker, because she has repeatedly supported us in the State Legislature," said Michael Trotto, Kihei realtor and Maui member of the Hawaii Political Action Committee.
