Surf camp slated for special needs keiki

LAHAINA - Fleetwoods on Front St. and THERAsurf will hold a free surf program for children with special needs at Launiupoko Beach Park on Sunday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kaila Nip, a 2010 graduate of Lahainaluna High School, was recently recognized for success on and off the tennis court by being named a CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All District 8 At Large Team selection. Nip, a junior at Linfield College, repeated as a second team All Northwest Conference honoree, compiling a 3.8 grade point average in biology while earning a 13-3 record in singles and 11-6 record in doubles competition for the Wildcats.


Hoops camps set

LAHAINA - Basketball Maui and The Grand Wailea present the Maui Grand Slam: three signature community events benefiting the development of Maui's youth.

The Maui Grand Slam kicks off with Maui's fifth annual Basketball Camp in gyms throughout the island on June 23-27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is $99.

Basketball Skills Camp will be held at Lahaina Civic Center and Kamehameha Schools for players ages 7-13. The camps will be coached by a professional staff focused on teaching key techniques to becoming a great player.

This year, they are also hosting a Next Level Advanced Player Camp at War Memorial Gym for athletes ages 14-19 who want to take their game and life to the next level.

All campers receive a T-shirt, photo and free admission to "Night of Shooting Stars." Visit to register.
