Lahaina residents are circulating a petition to “Block the Development of the Proposed Kahoma Village and Instead Preserve the Land for a Community Park.” An event will be held at the project site at the corner of Front and Kenui streets at 10 a.m. on May 31 to gather support for the campaign. The next hearing for the project will be held on June 24.

The benefit will feature live music, a silent auction and raffles. Donations will be greatly appreciated.

Moose McGillycuddy's lost its lease and closed

LAHAINA - George Watson of Moose McGillycuddy's on Friday reported, "The Lahaina Moose lost its lease and has closed."

He wrote, "Thirty years of food, fun and memories. We challenged you with 12-egg omelets, gigantic burgers and all-you-could-eat king crab and BBQ beef ribs a la Fred Flintstone.

"We sold you eggs so cheap that the chickens had to work overtime. Ear-numbing rock bands and frenzied dancing. Dollar Tuesdays that were a blurry memory on Wednesday...

"The ever-popular Happy Hour at your favorite sports bar. We watched you grow up; heck, we watched your kids grow up. We helped you celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and God only knows what else.

"The good, the bad and the ugly - we saw it all and did it with you, our loyal customers living here on Maui or visiting from the far-flung Isles of Langerham and points beyond.

"What a journey. Melancholy ap-proaches, but no; no sniveling, firm upper lip and all that... all that can be said is thanks for the memories."

Watson asked Moose McGillycuddy's customers to come see them in Kihei or Honolulu.
