Town to celebrate Banyan Tree’s 141st birthday

LAHAINA - LahainaTown Action Committee will host the Banyan Tree Birthday Party from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 19-20.

Among the most famous landmarks in Lahaina, the Banyan Tree was planted in 1873 by Sheriff William Smith to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the first Missionaries to Maui.

LAC invites everyone to come out and celebrate the 141st birthday of the

Banyan Tree with birthday cake, live music, a silent auction and magic. Admission is free.

Maui artists will sell their own jewelry, pottery, artwork, wood carvings and glasswork from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

The lineup for Saturday includes a silent auction from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; interactive magic throughout the park with Magician Brenton Keith from noon to 1 p.m., followed by a performance on stage from 1 to 2 p.m.; free Banyan Tree Birthday Cake at 2 p.m.; and live music from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., featuring Kapule & Friends, Na Kapuna Ohana Serenaders, Na Kamali'i Nani O Lahaina, Upcountry Celtic, Kalama Kids, and Kulewa.

Music on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. includes George Kahumoku Jr., Haiku Hillbillys, Kapule & Friends, and Uncle Lui Williams.
