Food Safety Certification Class set

April 3, 2014
Lahaina News

KAHULUI - TOBE Co. Food Safety is holding a rare ServSafe Certification Class on Maui on Monday, June 16, at the University of Hawaii Maui College.

The class starts at 8 a.m.; most students will be finished with the exam by about 5 p.m. Attendees must pre-register with TOBE Co. by contacting Tom Frigge at (808) 235-0797 or TFrigge@TOBECoFoodSafety.com.

Frigge, president of TOBE Co., said, "With new food safety regulations for restaurants starting this year, this class is great preparation and a must for managers who want to stay ahead of the requirements. We can help restaurant managers understand how to get the coveted green placard. Getting a yellow placard on a health inspection would be a disaster."

A summary of the upcoming new regulations can be found at www.TOBECoFoodSafety.com.

Since the firm is an approved trainer in the state Employment & Training Fund program, 50 percent tuition assistance may be available, making the cost just $86. To find out if you qualify, and how much your tuition would be, call Frigge.

"We haven't had a class on Maui for over a year, so we expect this one to sell out," Frigge said.

"It will probably be two years before we have another on Maui."

ServSafe, the food safety training curriculum developed by the National Restaurant Association, is considered the gold standard. Anyone who passes the test will receive ServSafe Certification and meet any upcoming training requirements by the state Department of Health.
