Maui Food Bank gets boost from HC&S

By Staff | Nov 28, 2013

KAHULUI – A $15,000 donation from Alexander & Baldwin Inc., presented to the Maui Food Bank (MFB) recently by HC&S management, will help fund new, energy-efficient refrigeration and freezer units to increase the amount of fresh produce, dairy and other refrigerated foods that can be collected, stored and distributed.

Providing fresh food is a commitment MFB is emphasizing via an effort titled “Fresh 4 All,” making fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy and other proteins available to agencies and individuals who rely on donated food.

This is A&B’s third donation to MFB for major improvements. In addition to volunteer leadership by company managers, including HC&S’s Garret Hew, A&B has supported the Maui Food Bank since 1988 with previous donations for trucks, freezers, refrigerators, building improvements and operating support totaling well over $150,000.

On Maui, A&B’s companies include Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company, East Maui Irrigation Company, Kahului Trucking & Storage and A&B Properties.
